Haslett is a small community 9 miles east of Lansing, and 4.5 miles east of East Lansing. It is governed by Meridian Charter Township. Meridian Township has 906 acres of park land situated in 28 parks and natural areas. Residents enjoy quiet, safe, and well maintained neighborhoods such as Blueberry Hills, Everett Farms, Meadowbrook, Chippewa, Silver Creek, Woodcreek, The Pines and The Preserves. The subdivisions offer plenty of open space where families can play and spend time together.
Haslett is home to, and most famous for, Lake Lansing. This 500 acres lake is surrounding by 2 public parks. Visitors can enjoy beaches, fishing and a boat launch. Michigan State University (MSU) Sailing Club and Lansing Sailing Club are housed at Lake Lansing. Lake Lansing is historically significant for its amusement park, open from 1934-1974. The amusement park featured a giant wood roller coaster.
In 2007, BusinessWeek ranked Haslett 42nd on their list of 'Best Places to Raise Your Kids'. According to the article,"a list of 50 places in the U.S. that offer kids-and their parents-the right combination of safety, community, and education." Test scores and the number of schools in the community were two of the criteria used in developing the list.
In the May 23, 2011 edition of Forbes, Haslett was featured in the Top Education Towns. It is ranked 5th in the country for educational value in towns with a median home price of $100,000 to $199,000. In addition, Haslett is ranked 43rd overall out of more than 17,500 towns and cities analyzed in the study.
